The tribal textile industry has been in existence since time immemorial. It is a huge global commodity for India. A wide variety of apparel ranging from drapes to coat, jackets, cotton kurtas and sarees in a handwoven fabric is being created out of tribal textiles today. The cotton Kurtas/Kurtis are made by the Bhil tribal women of Rajasthan by way of intricate embroidery in Tanka stitch on the neck/ cuffs of the sleeves. It is then hand stitched by the women themselves. Sometimes the patterns on the neck and sleeves are made by combining two techniques – patchwork and embroidery together.
